The Consultation & Advocacy Promotion Service
Individual Advocacy (East Lothian & Midlothian)
We have a team of volunteer advocates who work across the two geographical areas of East Lothian and Midlothian, alongside two full time Individual Advocacy Workers. CAPS Senior Advocacy Worker arranges ongoing individual and group support for all volunteer advocates.
Our service provides independent advocacy support to people (adults) who have experience of mental health difficulties in the community as well as supporting people in hospital. Issues include housing, employment, children and families, benefits, health and other matters affecting your well-being.
CAPS Individual Advocacy Workers also work with people who may be directly affected by the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, in particular people attending Mental Health Tribunal hearings.
We also give talks to people who have experience of mental health difficulties and staff from statutory and voluntary sector agencies on independent advocacy, advance statements, named persons, tribunals and other issues relating to the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.
