The Consultation & Advocacy Promotion ServiceCAPS is an independent advocacy organisation for people who use, or have used mental health services. CAPS works with mental health service users as individuals or as members of a group to set their own agenda, to find a stronger voice, to get their point across, and influence decisions which affect their lives. PublicationsWe have recently updated our Service User Guides to the Mental Health Act. Most of the content of these guides is the same and still relevant to anyone who wants to understand the Mental Health (Care & Treatement) (Scotland) Act 2003 and how it relates to them, but some of the contact details of organisations have been updated. You can download the updated versions below:

This event resulted in a follow-up meeting, ‘Bright Ideas Brunch’. ‘What the hell is well?’ was the working title for the Have Your Say Day. It was an open meeting for all mental health service users across Midlothian. The aim was to give service users the opportunity to say how services can keep them well and find ways to measure this. We came up with some measures that could be used to check local mental health services are meeting the needs of their service users. Sometimes these are called ‘outcomes’. To read the full report click below: If you do read the report, we would appreciate if you also filled in the following evaluation form. Please send completed evaluations to contact@capsadvocacy.org. Thank you! Also… On Tuesday 3 April 2007 CAPS held a Have Your Say Day for people who use, or have used, mental health services in Midlothian. ‘Making our mark’ was the working title of the day. The aim was to produce a mental health service users’ “Manifesto”. We hope that candidates standing for the local and national elections will take notice and sign up to support the delivery of mental health services that we know can make a real difference.
